Always use fresh, high-quality seed from a reputable source.
If you cool-store seed, bring it to room temperature (68–72°F / 20–22°C) before sowing to avoid condensation and uneven germination.

Use a sterile, well-draining plug mix with a pH of 5.8–6.2.
Fill 50- or 72-cell trays firmly but without compacting — avoid air pockets that dry out unevenly.
Pre-moisten the medium before sowing — it should feel like a wrung-out sponge, not wet or dusty dry.

Sow one seed per cell at a depth of ½–¾ inch (1.3–2 cm), pointed end down.
Cover lightly with dry vermiculite or plug mix to retain moisture without surface crusting.

Hold day temperature at 72–77°F (22–25°C) and night at 65–68°F (18–20°C) for the first week.
Maintain relative humidity at 70–80% to reduce transplant stress.
Transition to your main crop nutrient program at EC 2.5–3.5 mS/cm within 3–5 days.
Begin stem training (twisting around a vertical string) once plants are 6–8 inches above the transplant point.
