Herbs and Microgreens

Standard Chive can be a great addition to your microgreen selections. Chives are easy to grow and are tolerant to harsh conditions.

Thick, flavorful leaves that can produce multiple cuts during the second year of production. Suitable for forcing, pot growing and fresh cut.

Collard greens are a cool season vegetable, and are often planted in late summer to early autumn for winter harvest in the south.  In more northern areas, collards may be planted mid-to-late summer for an abundant supply of this dark-green leafy vegetable for fall or winter harvest. Collards are cold tolerant and are very adaptable.

Coriander (Coriandrum sativum), also called cilantro or dhania, is an annual herb in the family Apiaceae. Coriander is native to southern Europe and North Africa to southwestern Asia. It is a soft, hairless plant growing to 50 centimetres (20 in) tall.

The leaves are variable in shape, broadly lobed at the base of the plant, and slender and feathery higher on the flowering stems. The flowers are borne in small umbels, white or very pale pink, asymmetrical, with the petals pointing away from the center of the umbel longer (5–6 mm) than those pointing towards it (only 1–3 mm long).

The fruit is a globular, dry schizocarp 3–5 mm diameter. While in the English-speaking world (except for the U.S.) the leaves and seeds are known as coriander, in American culinary usage the leaves are generally referred to by the Spanish word cilantro.

Upland Cress is also called Winter Cress. It is an easy to grow cut-and-grow again crop. The plant grows to about 4-6″ tall with mildly peppery leaves.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a flowering plant species in the carrot family. It is a hardy, perennial herb with yellow flowers and feathery leaves.

It is a highly aromatic and flavorful herb with the similar-tasting anise and makes a great addition to any herb selection.  Florence fennel or finocchio is a selection with a swollen, bulb-like stem base that is used as a vegetable.

Grey Stripe Sunflower - for sprouting  (Helianthus annuus)

Grey Stripe sunflower is one of the more popular varieties used for sprouting.  The shoots can be eaten fresh or in a salad.  Shoots can be harvested at 3-4 inches.

Also called Tuscan Kale is a widely used  type, especially in Italian cuisine. An heirloom variety with dark savoyed, tender leaves.

Can be grown as a microgreen or to full maturity and has become a very popular addition for growers and consumers.

Vates Kale leaves are curly and a dark blue-green. Plant is compact and dwarf plants reach about 2’ tall at full size.
